About the Faculty

LIFE-Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen

LIFE - Faculty of Life Sciences is one of Europe's leading university environments in the areas of veterinary science, food and natural resources.

Since 2007, the Faculty has been part of University of Copenhagen, the largest institution of research and education in Denmark.

Based in a country that has the world’s most environmentally friendly agricultural production and located in the so-called Medicon Valley, among global pharmaceutical, biotech and food companies, LIFE is situated in the heart of one of the world's strongest life science environments.

Research and university education at LIFE focus on seven core competences:

In touch with real life

The Faculty has an applied and business-oriented approach to the natural sciences.

We apply our knowledge to ensure the greatest possible benefit to the Danish and the international communities.

Our research and degree programmes, including PhD and international MSc programmes, are centered round knowledge and tools that can help secure a brighter future for humans, animals and plants.

The world-class research carried out at the eleven departments at LIFE covers the whole chain from farm to fork to health and wellbeing.

International competences

LIFE competes with and provides knowledge to a global market and is actively engaged in international cooperation. The Faculty has agreements with 180 partner universities all over the world.

Thirteen out of our 24 university degree programmes are taught entirely in English and each year LIFE welcomes more than 800 international students. Dedicated Student Services staff provide practical assistance, support and advice to international as well as Danish students.

All programmes are business-oriented and aim at giving our graduates the ability to be critical, analytical, creative and independent in their work.

Graduates from the Faculty of Life Sciences are in great demand in the public as well as the private sector - nationally as well as internationally.

A unique campus environment

LIFE is known for its fine learning environment and for having one of the oldest and most beautiful campuses in Denmark. In the campus gardens, surrounded by flowers, students run a café in a renovated greenhouse. With its attractive location in the middle of Denmark’s capital, this makes LIFE an oasis for students and staff and contributes to making LIFE an attractive and inspiring place to work.
